Netstumbler and Vista

#1 Post by mk1 black limited » Thu Apr 12, 2007 4:02 pm

I know, it's not supposed to work in Vista. Yet people have made it work on other laptops with Vista, so - anyone have it working in Vista on a Thinkpad?

This forum (and probably the whole world) remains overwhelmlingly NOT vista at this point. Of course that will change but that is another topic.

So I am not surprised you haven't found a reply. Did you try Compatibility mode to install? That sometimes (not always) worked with XP when it was new six years ago.

Netstumbler problems

#6 Post by earl@greerdata.com » Sun Apr 29, 2007 3:46 pm

I can get Netstumbler to run on a t60 with Vista Business, it sees the Intel 3945abg adapter in the devices list, but shows "No AP's active" at the bottom of the screen.
I kind of think I saw this on my older t42 running Win XP, and was able to address it by not letting Thinkvantage Access Connections have control over the wireless connections.
In XP there was a checkbox on the wireless networks tab of the wireless network connection properties titled "Use windows to configure my wireless network settings". If I remember correctly (not really a 100% safe bet) I used to check this box, which kind of disabled Thinkvantage Access Connections, and allow NetStumbler to see the WLAN traffic.
I cannot seem to find a similar option in XP, so I cannot check to see if that will work. I am considering unloading Access Connections but hate to do it as I really like the applet.
If I take the plunge Ill post the results.
