Cursor on the Fritz
Cursor on the Fritz
I have encountered a bit of a problem with my Think Pad 240.
It was working fine this morning, then after i restarted it (to finish a windows 2000 update), the cursor slowly started making its way down to the bottom of the screen. I didn't think much of this at first, because this had happened once or twice before and it stopped after a few seconds.
But this time, the cursor decided otherwise. Once it hit the bottom of the screen, i tried to move it around again, but to no avail.
To make a long story short, I've figured out that it has something to do with the TrackPoint thing on the keyboard. I can use a mouse with the laptop, but even that gets screwy if i have the TrackPoint enabled.
I have tried to update the drivers for it, but the update did nothing.
Anyone have any idea as to what is going on? Or even better, how to fix this?

Similar problems could be solved by simply reinstalling the drivers for the Trackpoint (from Device Manager). May work for you too.

unlikely this is a driver issue, especially since you have reloaded the drivers already..
this is a classic symptom of a trackpoint that has died..
what you experienced before is the trackpoint re-calibrating itself..
now, you need a new trackpoint..
which usually includes a new keyboard since it is one unit..
price was not excessive in the past..
not sure where you get those parts anymore but probably still is IBM Boulder Parts..
get a copy of the HMM so you can get the part (FRU) number..

Ask in our Market Forum, eBay, to just mention the most obvious ones...
