I desperately need help...

Ok, heres the deal.....

In february I got my Thinkpad T60 with XP installed and everything has been great, I sent after the express upgrade and eventually it came...

After installing Vista a lot of space has gone missing on the HD and the Thinkpad specific software doesnt want to work as it should.

I want to do a clean install of Vista but I guess that isnt possible with an upgrade cd?? Right?

So how do I go about fixing all this? I guess I need to reinstall XP and then go up to Vista again on top of a fresh XP-install?

Could someone guide me through the steps here?

I should have a fresh Xp on cd that came with the computer right? How do I make sure that I get Vista working with all the TP-Specific software later?

You CAN do a clean/fresh install of Vista from the upgrade DVD you have.

You don't even need to do this. I installed a clean install of Vista with the express upgrade disc on a completely formatted harddrive and it worked fine.

Once you boot from the upgrade DVD you get the option of doing a clean install. After that it does not matter if you do it on a formatted hard drive or a drive with an existing windows on it, Vista will overwrite. The only difference is that Vista will create Windows.old folder which saves files from the pre-existing XP/Vista OS.

Hmm..Install Vista over Vista. Looking at the time frame I could fresh load XP (no drivers) then Vista in less time than installing Vista, then upgrading.

Handy tip if you don't have restore media though.

Yes, I know. All I'm saying is that you don't need to install Vista twice like it says on Paul's site. I was just saying that it worked fine for me installing it fresh, not with XP or Vista already installed onto there.

I totally agree with what you just posted. Even I dint have to install vista twice, my key was activated after the first boot. I just directed 'brikeh' to this site to let him know that a clean install was possible and how. Sorry for any misunderstandings. However I was able to overwrite my 32-bit vista installation with a 64-bit without any formatting of hard drive, which was my point.

Well guys...this is very helpful cause I am going to install a clean vista after messing up with Client Security Solution. One question though: if you format the harddrive, will you able to still have Thinkadvantage software? I know even if the answer is yes, I need to upgrade many things... Thanks in advance.
