Problems with Changing Services/Startup

#1 Post by Lenova25 » Sun Apr 15, 2007 1:08 pm

I have 90 processes running. I know this is way too much. My issue is when i log in and stop services and end startup programs, the next time i restart the x60 laptop, the services and programs load and are started regardless. Is there something im doing wrong is msconfig? I really do not want to reinstall vista.
Can anyone give me some tips on what may be happening?

Also, when i delete/disable the icons in the systray, again, the next time i restart, boom - there they are again. How do i get rid of the diskkeeper icon in the systray. this is one that will not go away.

thanks

Once you make changes through msconfig and restart, windows pops up a window asking whether you want to resume to 'normal startup'. If you click yes it will undo all the changes you made and maybe thats why your startup programs are coming back again. Try selecting the proper option. Also IMO disabling startup programs from Windows Defender works well, so you might want to try that route.

For the second part - I was not able to get rid of diskkeeper either so finally uninstalled it as it was a limited version anyways. For other icons have you tried changing the behavior of inactive icons from the taskbar properties ?
