Sounds Muting itself for no reason

#1 Post by mpvincent » Wed Apr 18, 2007 6:50 pm

Hi there,

I have a z61t and every so often my machine mutes itself for no reason (running Vista Business).

Has anyone else come across this?

Thanks

Mike.

Yes I have an X60 and I just noticed the same problem myself today. Also the thinklight switching off.

I noticed that this started after upgrading the bios yesterday. I am also in Vista Business.

Did you upgrade the bios by any chance

I was running v2.13 - I have now just installed v2.16 so will see how that goes :)

Cheers

Turns out I was already running 2.16 bios - so have reinitialised it to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the reply - unfortunately doesnt help as "speaker" is checked, and it keeps turning itself on and off all the time without me doing anything. The red circle with line comes up on the speaker in the taskbar. I suspect its something to do with the power management or the bios.

Unfortunately, the SoundMax driver that Lenovo is distributing for Vista is flawed. It does not allow the speakers to function.

For now, the workaround is to remove the driver and then let Vista reinstall its own "reference driver" which ships with Vista. That will restore the function of the speakers.

Well I have installed the latest Bios update, and it seems to have fixed the problems I had with my computer randomly muting itself! (fingers crossed).

Looks like my fingers werent crossed well enough. Resumed my laptop after "sleep" in vista and its started muting itself. I can unmute it by pressing volume up button on the keyboard, but a little while it will mute itself again.

Very frustrating!
