Since no one else is taking a stab at this, I'll give it a shot. I do not have a Z60m, so I cannot say which, if any of the following methods below will work.

1) Install the following Vista driver: Audio driver for Windows Vista - ThinkPad R60, R60e, T60, T60p, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t.

2) Execute the following driver download to extract the files to your hard drive, then update the Driver in Device Manager (if you see a device with a yellow exclaimation mark on it), or run the Add Hardware wizard in Windows Control Panel. In both cases, manually choose the directory where the files were extracted to.
Audio Features XI for Windows 2000, XP - ThinkPad R60, R60e, T60, T60p, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t

3) Run Windows Update and see if it finds your driver.

Note that the T60 uses the same driver for XP as the Z60m, but for Vista, the Z60m is not listed. The T60 Vista driver may work though. It might be a good idea to set a System Restore Point before installing the driver in case you run into difficulties.

EDIT: Here is another Z60m owner with the same problem: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=41638

Problem solved for me by a microsoft patch!

#3 Post by ranrub » Thu May 10, 2007 1:03 am

Hi,

I had this problem for a month since installing vista on my Z60m.
Now i found a patch by microsoft that solves the problem. It's not public, you "have" to "request" it from Microsoft, it's kb934237, read about it on microsoft's site. Of course it's a available for download on community sites...

1. download the file http://thehotfixshare.net/download/inde ... 37-x86.msu

2. Install it

3. reboot

4. go to the device manager (control panel, system, choose "device manager"in the left panel.

5. find "High definition audio device" and delete it. Click OK.

6. reboot

7. Enjoy the sweet sound of music on your z60m!!!

Hope this helps,
Ran Rubinstein
