Windows Defender...Cannot Finish Install...PROBLEM SOLVED...

#1 Post by SatDoug » Thu Apr 26, 2007 7:38 pm

Good Evening, All:
Earlier today, I installed Windows Defender on both my work & home desktop. This evening, I planned to install it on my ThinkPad T60 (Windows XP Pro/latest updates/etc.), and was signed on as an Admin. I was accepting the default install without joining the 'community' option to report spyware (same as I did earlier) The install got about 80% complete when I got the error "Windows Defender: Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services". I clicked retry, but got the same error. I also tried to reboot, and again got the same message (it stops at the same point each time). Any ideas? Maybe something that has to do with the Client Security Solutions apps? Many thanks for any help!

Problem Solved...for those interested...

Hi All...
Well, one thing that I never thought of...I downloaded Windows Defender at work and saved the file, then copied it to the ThinkPad I wanted to install it on. So today, I decided to download it fresh from the ThinkPad...guess what message I got...I needed to validate my Windows with the Genuine Advantage BS. After doing that and running the ap, it worked perfectly. So once again, Microsoft is screwing the end user to protect itself against piracy, and it is the paying, end user who has to suffer (I'm sure the pirates have a crack for this nonsense).
