System Restore not working with X60 w/vista

#1 Post by Lenova25 » Sat Apr 28, 2007 12:30 pm

I've just tried using system restore and Im having some problems.

I run system restore and choose a restore point. Everything looks like it works fine and when I log back in, it tells me System Restore was unable to complete and try a different restore point. I do this and get the same message. The following appears in the event viewer:
Log Name: Application
Source: System Restore
Date: 4/28/2007 12:41:44 PM
Event ID: 8209
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A

Description:
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore: (Windows Update). Additional information: .

Does anyone have any suggestions or know what this means?

Try running System Restore from Windows SAFE MODE. Press F8 at the beginning of the boot sequence to enter SAFE MODE.

With XP anyway, Norton AV has been reported to keep System Restore from working. I know when I had Norton AV 2005 installled on XP, System Restore did not work for me either. I believe there is a setting in Norton to get around this. Something to do with self protection. I am not sure exactly what it is called.
