Cannot get any updates to install

#1 Post by nikemen » Tue May 01, 2007 12:30 pm

So, I have been trying to install MSFT updates, which I do about once every two weeks.

But, for the past month, I cannot get the update.windows.com website to get to the SELECT UPDATES pages. It just sits there and loads and loads.

I've tried flushing all activex controls that are resident, or java apps. Make sure auto updates and such are running as services.

I don't get the message that the services are not running, it just never goes anywhere. Then, I have a heck of a time getting the system to come back and it runs slowly till a reboot.

Is there a way to force updates?

Have you checked your computer for viruses, spyware, etc.? Or maybe even your firewall setting?

And, when was the last time you got some updates from MS?

yes, I have run the spyware and virus engines, nothing there. I've tried simply opening the fw, that doesn't help.

I did try this site listed here, windizupdates that used firefox as the engine, and it put three updates through. Man, I hope that wasn't some virus hoax site.

I have been having trouble with Windows Update as well, ever since I installed Windows 2000 SP4. The updates will download fine, but they refuse to install. Tried Windiz for the first time yesterday and it works great. Seems legit to me.

windiz is legit, but it won't work on my PC.
It finds 4 updates (MS offers the same 4, plus the malicious removal tool, which windiz does NOT offer). When I tell it to install them, it starts downloading, but hangs after a few seconds, and won't continue no matter what.
I gave up, manually uninstalled windiz, and I now continue with the MS web-updates, which have no problems whatsoever.
