Disable all the Vista fancy graphics

#1 Post by furrycute » Fri May 11, 2007 6:34 pm

How do you disable all the fancy Vista graphics/special effects?

On my old XP pro, I have all the fancy graphics/special effects turned off, so the machine can run a bit faster.

I am not sure how to do these on Vista.

As far as I can tell not all the "fancy" aspects of Vista graphics can be turned off.

There are some switches (and off hand I don't recall where they are, but I was able to find them with a bit of straightforward searching so they can't be that hard to find) but even with all of them disabled, there are some Vista utilities etc that still seem to be using some grahics unstated capabilities and run very slowly on a Vista system with a graphics experience score of less than 2.0.

Cheers,

Bill B.

Have you tried going to system properties>advanced>performance>visual effects and select adjust for best performance, pretty much makes it look like win2K.

My machine has a 4.0 rating so it's pretty quick with Vista Business set for Best Appearance but when I set it to Best Performance it screams, but it's ugly.

Thank you guys for the help!

I'll try those things and see if they speed things up.

On my old XP pro machine, I have my appearance set up like Windows 2000, maybe even more barebone. That's what I like:)

right click on the desktop and then personalize, in the window that pops up choose 'theme' and then you can select windows classic ,, which will turn off all the aero and fancy stuff,,
