On Line Virus Scan For XP & Firefox

#1 Post by Kyocera » Sat May 19, 2007 7:34 pm

One of the users at work has a problem with I.E. 7, pretty sure it was hijacked, I cleared up most everything except I could not get it to not default to google for the homepage and a couple of other issues. I installed firefox and want to try Kaspersky but from what I read you need i.e. to run the free Virus Scan.

Anything I can run in firefox? Thanks

This one supports FF: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Also, the Access Connections program prohibits/undoes changes to your default/home page unless you change it there as well.

When all else fails, try HijackThis to see things:

Thanks for the replys, I have used hijack this in the past and that is pretty much a last resort before a clean in stall and this is a fairly new install so I'll probably just go ahead and wipe the drive and start over.

I read the instructions on the Kaspersky Web site and didn't see where they mentioned any plug ins but I'll re check that to. RBS, i'll probably try housecall first, sounds the easiest.

I find Hijack This very easy to use, and not necessarily as a last resort.

If there's something malicious going on, you will be able to control whatever it is via HT. If you're unsure of reading the log it produces, then register on the forums at spywareinfo.com, and follow their instructions to post the HT log, and some experts will guide you through the process of cleaning out the bad stuff. I've never seen a situation where someone had to reinstall the OS when doing it this way.

Agreed, XCoalMiner. HJT is my first resort.
