Changing language from german to english (or danish)

#1 Post by raabjerg » Mon May 21, 2007 2:15 pm

Hello,

I am looking to buy a t60 that comes with a german Vista business installed.

I was wondering if it is possible to change the language to english (or in the best case scenario danish), maybe through some MUI technology, without violating the license.

Any thoughts on this?

Best regards,
raabjerg

Changing the language is not possible on Vista Business.

The MUI can only be installed on Vista Ultimate or Enterprise editions and is available through online update or dvd (but vista enterprise is only available when you have software assurance with ms).

ok - thanks for the reply.

Would I then be able to legally install another language version of the os from rescue and recovery disks, or is the license on the computer tied to language version?

You can install any language of TV tools that you want as long as they are available from Lenovo software download site. Most of the tools are language dependend on the os. So if you have an english os the language of the tools will be english, too.

Thank you for your reply.

What I meant to ask was: Could I, for instance, install an English Vista Business from a set of english recovery cd's with the same license as that on the german computer?

The short answer is no! There is not way to change the language of the OS without reloading the OS that has the language you want. Ultimately all MS window systems are in English -- if you have an XP or Vista in any other language it is the original with a language package added. :x Why? $$$$ MS' only raison d'etre

Best thing is to do a clean install with the OS in the language you want, and reload the software installer from IBM and add the other stuff you want. I reloaded with Vista without no problems -- and have done so with XP as well. There is lots and lots of info on doing clean install -- what is more better for you.

don't waste your time with IBM they will send to MS, who will send you to IBM or to your local computer shop for a new copy of XP ... though as we know that is not necessarily your only solution.

Good luck
Steve

Thank you for your replies.

I am aware that I need to do a clean install.

What I need to know is this: Will the license sticker on the computer for a e.g. German version of Vista also be valid for an English version?

Thanks :)

Could one for instance replace some files on the service drive and in that way change the Windows language on the service partition?

Thank you again, but I am really not looking for technical help here.

What I am interested in knowing is if it will be legal to use another language version af Vista with the german sticker. I'm sure I will find a way to actually install another OS version.

As far as i know. Yes you can. The license number for reinstalling windows on your sticker is language independent.
