My T60P has the 14' SXGA+ screen and the difference between WINXP and Vista are incredible. In Vista the veiwing angle has increased as has the clarity. Just wondering if anyone else noticed, very big difference between it and my T41P and nearly as nice as the T42P
T41p-GEU / T42p-KXU bought from Bill/ T60p-8HU / 4 T400p's and now a T440p

mrbjr, would you check how good the screen looks when you reduce the resolution to 1024x768? Under XP, non-native resolutions look terrible, but under Vista, they should look halfway decent.

Fine that you have such a nice experience.
But from technical standpoint this has nothing to do with Vista or XP. The only difference between this two os are:
On Vista Cleartype is enabled by default and the system fonts are improved for better on-screen readablility and changed (XP uses Tahoma 8 pt., Vista SegoeUI 9 pt.).

But IMHO, Cleartype makes things worse.

I think Cleartype is a very personal preference thing. I generally prefer it in most circumstances -- but only after going through the quickie tuning step to get the best results. Although it's conceivable that the Lenovo Vista preload has been pre-tuned ...

I agree cleartype is definately a personal preference, and I can't stand to not have it, all the thinkpads I have owned were vastly better with cleartype on and tuned.
Kwoon, I'm glad you asked that question reference to the better non-native res in Vista because I remember reading that vista was "supposed" to do a better job than XP, need to check mine out later.

Is that on the Control Panel menu? I can't find it.tomh009 wrote:Check out the "ClearType Tuning" control panel applet
I just activated ClearType and for a moment I thought I had tears in my eyes! Things looked much fuzzier.

Yes, it is in the Control Panel Menu (unless you use the online version). However you have to download the tuner from Microsoft and install it first.pianowizard wrote:Is that on the Control Panel menu? I can't find it.

Sorry, it looks like I installed it afterward. You can find it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cle ... /tune.aspx
PW, give it a try and see whether you can look at it without crying after some tuning.

Thanks both of you for the links. Tried it, got ClearType to look better than before, but I still prefer the sharpness of non-ClearType texts. To each his own!
