Can I remove older XP version?

#1 Post by Chispad60 » Sat Jun 09, 2007 4:31 am

I've actualized my x60s to VISTA Business with the Express Upgrade DVD that Lenovo send me, i didn't make a clean install, only choose to actualize.

My HD (80 GB), before installation was 55 free space, and after VISTA upgrade i've only 39 GB free !! Is that normal?

I would like to know if there are some files i can delete, or any way to remove the XP version previously installed, without reinstalling VISTA.
Thanks 4 all, F. Suárez

just do a clean install, that'll solve everything. Plus you don't want to leave all the junk and all that. 39GB is a lot too, if you had 55 before and not doing anything with it then 39 will be just as enough :)

with that said tho a clean install vista uses up about 10GBs, the pagefile, the hiberfile the 8GB windows folder (tons of drivers) :)

Thanks,
Yes, you're right is not bad at all with 39 GB.

However i'm expecting that the HD space is being reduced constantly, every time i turn on the notebook it's like 1 GB less.

I found out that VISTA has a kind of self system restore (Windows Complete PC) and it stores kind of files and images backups. The properties of the HD in general options for "free space" there is an option to delete this "restore points", and every time i get rid of them i win like 3GB space. Is there an option to stop VISTA doing this backups?
Thanks 4 all, F. Suárez

yeah, just turn off system restore.

computer - properties - advances system settings - system protection - uncheck box for the drives with restore.

NOTE - If Vista crashes then you'll have no way to system restore in Safemode or anything so just make sure you have your drive partitioned incase you have to just format the drive with Vista installed.
