resuming from sleep & display drivers for intel 945GM

#1 Post by crashnet » Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:49 pm

this is my first post on this forum. i found that the level on this forum to be higher than the other forum i'd been going to for help with my thinkpad (notebookreview.com).

on my t60-6371-CTO i can hibernate fine but it never wakes up from sleep correctly. it seems that it is about to wake up (num lock and caps lock flash, fan comes on) but the screen remains blank.

as recommended by windows update, the display driver version (intel 945gm) is v7.14.10.1187. i tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the video driver. i tried using the older vista supplied driver..

i cant find any drivers available for download from lenovo's website (for vista), and if you try to install a version from intel's site you are blocked by the installer.

so i am left with the original version of the driver (the on that ships with windows) or the one i am using. neither allows the wakeup to happen successfully. i know the problem could lie somewhere else, but the display driver seems to be the first place to look.

my question then is if ANYONE IS ABLE to successfully wakeup from sleep using the driver version above (1187)?

thanks

The drivers available for your T60 are on the following page. There is a Windows Vista 32-bit GM driver, version 7.14.10.1114. The Windows Vista 64-bit driver is version 7.14.10.1138. I assume you are using the 32-bit version of Vista?

OK, I missed that, and I see what you are saying. Nevertheless, I would consider trying that driver out. I notice that the XP driver (Version: 6.14.10.4693) listed on the driver matrix page in the column for your model (6371) says the following.
Video driver (Intel 900 / 950 - 910GML / 915GM / 940GML / 945GM) for Windows 2000 / XP - ThinkPad R52 (18xx), R60, R60e, T43 (18xx), T60 (19xx), X60, X60s, Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61t
------------------------
This package provides the Intel 900/950 - 910GML/915GM/940GML/945GM video driver for Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP.

The following ThinkPad systems are supported:
- ThinkPad R52 (18xx)
- ThinkPad R60, R60e
- ThinkPad T43 (18xx)
- ThinkPad T60 (Machine Type: 19xx)(*1)
- ThinkPad X60, X60s
- ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61t
The Vista driver (Version: 7.14.10.1114) for the T60 says the following.
Video Driver for Intel 950 (940GML / 945GM) for Windows Vista (32bit) - R60, R60e, T60 (19xx), X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, Z61e, Z61m, Z61t
------------------------
This package provides the software (video driver) for the following Intel 950 (940GML / 945GM) chipsets.

The following systems are supported:

- ThinkPad R60, R60e
- ThinkPad T60 (Machine Type: 19xx)(*1)
- ThinkPad X60, X60s, X60 Tablet
- ThinkPad Z61e, Z61m, Z61t
Whether you want to try it or not is up to you. If it was my ThinkPad, I would probably try it (but then again, I do take more chances than some).

before i got to try that i noticed that WU pushed v1124. it still didnt solve the problem, so it makes me less hopeful an older driver would.

i guess i am just going to use hibernate and wait for SP1....

thanks
