Vista boot super slow

#1 Post by dtzihe » Sun Jun 17, 2007 12:25 am

I have a T60 8744-5BU with T7200 processor and 1 gig RAM. I upgraded to Vista and it runs quite fine, but the boot, shut down, and hibernate are so slow that i am seriously considering reinstalling XP or upgrading ram to 2 gig or 3 gig.

So, do you think my problem can be fixed by adding more RAM? How does your computer run Vista and what is your config?

Thanks.

I've timed my computer to load vista in ~50 sec. I start counting from when I first see the progress bar of vista loading to when I see the logon screen. I've found that when I have my external hard drive plugged in, booting takes really really long, probably 3-4 minutes. If you're in the same boat, I'd try disconnecting your external hd or anything connected through usb. I'm pretty sure the external usb hd is a bug but haven't found a fix for it. Hope that somewhat helps.

... perhaps try to uninstall and disable some of the programs and services as discussed e.g. --> here. Also, if you search (all forums here, at the same time) for "vista slow boot" [Search for all terms], many useful suggestions comes up!
