16 copies of svchost.exe running?

#1 Post by jgrobertson » Tue Jul 03, 2007 10:12 pm

My hard drive seams to run all the time and but CPU usage is low. Looking at Processes, I see 16 copeis of svchost.exe running. 15 from the System32 dirctory and one (svchost.exe *32) from SysWLOW64 directory.

This is Vista 64

What is going on? Is this a trojan or such?

Most Microsoft services use the svchost.exe host process. If you run Process Explorer (see link below) you can figure out what those services are actually doing. Likely these are not viruses, though.

In Vista this is easier... in the Task Manager, simply right click and select 'Goto Service' to identify it.
