repair installation with R&R possible?

#1 Post by npish » Wed Jul 04, 2007 5:56 pm

I'm wondering if it's possible to initiate an XP "Repair" installation from the Rescue & Recovery environment, as you could by booting from an XP install disc and selecting the "Repair" option?

It seems that with Rescue & Recovery your only real option in the event of real system instability is a complete factory reinstall (ie format reinstall);

In my current situation with this machine it would be much more desirable to repair than reformat.....this seems to be an example of why not having an actual OS install disc can be quite frustrating...

thanks for any suggestions.

"I'm wondering if it's possible to initiate an XP "Repair" installation from the Rescue & Recovery environment, as you could by booting from an XP install disc and selecting the "Repair" option?" In a word: NO.

You can make a Windows Install Disk by following the information in the Sticky at the top of this forum. Check the latests posts. I believe the links in the earlier posts are now dead. From this disk you should be able to do a repair install.
