Hard drive.. Unlocking

#1 Post by superman_06 » Sat Jul 07, 2007 6:23 pm

OK I got another think pad.. T21 it has a 20gig HD that has win2000 (I think), when it boots up
it says "no operating systems found"
I can take my other T21 HD and put it in and it boots right up. So I made a win2000 bootdisk, if I goto FDISK, it says "unble to access drive 1" , I D/L a copy of winXP and it still wouldnt load though the CD-rom, I tried

d:winxp:> setup

and it says "unable to load in DOS"
So I put the boot disk in and tried "FORMAT C:"
and it says "format not supported on C drive" Format terminated"

I can access c drive and go thought the dir... but I doing know what I am looking for, I did scandisk. exe and It worked

any suggestions? My goal is to get XP on this thing but I think I am having NPTS/ FAT problems

Maybe it has a password set on it?
Do you see a password prompt at boot? If not try running the Hitachi Drive fitness test.

it had a password on it (at windows) and he tried to make a boot disk to restore ... He forgot his pasword, when he loaded a img file (cd) it shut off and now it like its dead. I think the C drive I was accessing was a "virtual" drive... Not sure though, the hard drive is a hitachi model dk23ba-20, the cmos does show the HD installed. whe I go c:

it doesnt have a windows dir

As carbon_unit suggested, run the Hitachi Drive fitness test. If all tests pass, write 0's to the drive using the same utility. Then you should be good to go.

If the Hitachi DFT can't fix it you need to replace it. :(
