Print Screen Function

#1 Post by fkelly » Sun Jul 08, 2007 3:29 pm

On my work computer I can use this (crtl PrtSc) print screen function, but on my personal laptops it doesn't seem to work.

Are there any setting I need to have..

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

The basic PrintScreen functionality provided with Windows is pretty crude.

There's a freeware printscreen utility called Gadwin PrintScreen that does a great job of capturing screens, windows, or regions of the screen and allowing you to do with them what you wish.

Very cool, but question. I have figured out how to capture the image but how do I "attach it" to where I want it to go. Say placing it inside an email.

Very cool thou....Thank You very much for this tip

PrtSc will capture a snapshot of your screen in Window's clipboard. You then have to "paste" it into some sort of graphics program so it can be saved in a file. You can use Window's own Paint program to do this.

- Press the print screen button
- Launch Paint
- Select Edit/Paste and the image will appear. Crop as needed then File/Save and choose whatever name and image type (.jpg is probably best)

Possibly depending upon the email program you are using on that laptop, a paste command from the clipboard may be supported. For example, Yahoo email does not support pasting an image from the clipboard but (Mozilla) Thunderbird does. I am quite surprised to find that Forte Agent (4.1) does not support this either.

If you're referring to Gadwin, you can right-click on its tray icon, choose Properties, then click on the Destination icon. The image will be sent to every location checked (clipboard, printer, email recipient, file). You can also control where the files are stored and how they're named if you select file as a destination.

To paste a screen shot of the current application into a capable email client, make sure Current Windows is selected as a source and clipboard is selected as a destination. Then hit PrtSc, Enter, open your email client's compose facility, then paste.
