TP FAN CONTROL

#1 Post by qazthinkzaq » Thu Jul 12, 2007 4:38 am

Hi,
I'm using TP Fan control 0.21 as a service,
on every start it starts in "Smart mode"
How to set it to run by default in "Bios mode"?
Best regards :)

Hi,

Open the Fancontrol configuration settings file (in the directory where you installed the fancontrol service files) with notepad or a similar text editor and change the Active setting to 0 (zero). It is probably set to 2 at the moment. Save and close the file and restart fancontrol and you should be done. With a setting of zero the program runs in a monitoring mode and will not actively change the fan speed.

Thanks,
I have one more question about fancontrol :)

When it works in "Smart mode" fan runs with faster RPM than in "Bios mode". In Bios mode some times it even turns the fan OF

So my question,
Is there a version of fancontrol that works better for T60p ?

You have to change the settings in the fancontrol.ini file to specify the temp/speed. You should find the default settings at the bottom of the fancontrol.ini file, but the default settings might not be the best settings for your computer so you should probably change it if the fan make more noise when using this utility.

Using the example below the fan should turn off when the temp is below 50, run at lowsest speed when above 60, the next lowest when above 70 and the last one will let the BIOS handle the fan if the temp reach 80. If the speed of the fan reach a new level it has to fall below the previous level to decrease the speed of the fan again. Instructions for all settings can be found in the fancontrol.ini file.

Level=50 0
Level=60 1
Level=70 3
Level=80 128

This is just an example to explain how it works and might not be the best settings for your computer.

Great program. I don't use my ThinkPad without it.

Put a shortcut in the startup folder so you never have to open it manually (except if it throws out an error on startup).

Version 0.21 run as a serivce so there is no need for a shortcut in the startup folder. Also because it run as a service it will start before the windows login.
