Fresh install of Vista?

#1 Post by jjfcpa » Thu Jul 12, 2007 7:56 am

I've got a T61 that I've had lots and lots of issues with from slow booting, slow shutdown, blue screens (not a lot, but enough), and just plain flakeyness.

I want to do a fresh install of Vista Ultimate and I've purchased a copy for the purpose because I don't think I can use the built-in partition to do this. I thought I saw a "How-To" on the correct procedure to follow on this forum, but can't find it. Anyone got a link to it?

Hi,

Did your problems occur with a _valid_ version of Windows XP/Vista?

My T61 came with Vista Ultimate and I'm not sure if it's Vista or the T61, but I've had way too many problems with it to think it's Vista. Especially, when you consider I have other laptops running Vista without near the problems.

The T61 has been the most unreliable Thinkpad I've ever owned. It has become a desk ornament because of lockups, blue screens, and otherwise flakey behavior. Just can't trust it for mission critical work.

That's not really the kind of fresh install that I want to do because I want to get rid of the recovery partition. Can you create the re-install disks first and use them to do the same thing?

i know i have posted this a few times. Delete the current partitions on your drive (i use partition commander) format to NTFS,
install Vista DVD, the DVD (retail) will ask if you want to format again, i ususally let it do a quick format, then it will install Vista and, without the 500 steps involved in the other post, this works I have done it personally or would not post it. Vista will find drivers to run almost all your hardware except the biometric (fingerprint reader) any other drivers can be found at the lenovo web site driver matrix page for your model.
