Can I get Robocopy for XP without the whole resource kit?

#1 Post by mgo » Sat Jul 14, 2007 4:10 am

I think this is on topic...

I've looked around and had no luck with this. I really like Robocopy now that it's available in Vista, and would like to use it in XP also, but geeze, who needs the whole resourse kit thing along with it, eh?

Any way I can get Robocopy as a stand alone app for XP?
Thanks...

these guys have it: (no affiliation)

http://www.soloenterprises.org/tips-and ... bocopy.php

It appears to be the same build as the one in the Server 2003 Resource kit. They also have subinacl, which is another useful tool. It appears to be the "fixed" version from june 2004. Both are useful tools.

Microsoft has the rktools.msi download, like you mention. I didn't see a standalone copy of robocopy from them.

Excellent! Thanks very much. I've got Robocopy installed and running just fine! I assumed that it wanted to be installed into "C:\WINDOWS\system32" so that is where I parked it. Seems happy there, and jobs are running ok that way!

It generally wants to be somewhere on your PATH and system32 is fine for that. Mine lives in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource kits\Tools\ .
