System restore eating up space

#1 Post by pipspeak » Sun Jul 15, 2007 5:52 pm

I have system restore (WinXP) enabled for my boot partition but despite setting a 1GB limit on disc space used for restore points Windows just goes on adding them until virtually all the free space on that partition is used up and I have to manually delete the oldest restore points. Any idea why Windows is not sticking to the alloted settings?

I keep System Restore limited to 5% of my drive (2.7Gb) and it never really goes beyond that. I think the limit is for the compressed size (size on disk), so the size of the files may be somewhat larger. But it never eats all my disk, so maybe something else is wrong. ... JDH

I'll try disabling system restore on that partition to clear out everything then switch it on again to see if that works.
