"unidentified network" entry after EVERY network c

#1 Post by thedogwarrior » Fri Jul 27, 2007 8:46 am

I've got a T60 2613-CTO running Vista Ultimate. I've got the Atheros 802.11a/b/g/n wireless card, and 1GB built-in Ethernet. System runs great, except for recurring network problem. I use system primarily at my office, and on home network. Simple networks at each location, sharing Internet access only.

The following happens when I use either wired or wireless network connections. If I put system to sleep with the network connected, when the system resumes at a different location, different network, I get a phantom "unidentified network" connection, along with whatever connection I hit at the other location. The actual network lists as Internet and Local, and the Unidentified entry lists as Local Access Only. Screencap here:

The only way I've found to resolve the situation is to either:

A. Disconnect the network, wired or wireless, BEFORE putting system to sleep at origin location; or

B. Resume at my destination, and go to Manage Network Connections, and disable and re-enable the network connection.

I've also tried, without success, to do the IPCONFIG /release and /renew, as well as letting Vista try to "Repair" the connection. Neither has worked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm finding lots of anecdotal posts about Vista network connections just dropping, or switching to Local Access Only, intermittently, but nothing exactly like my situation.

Thanks all!

very weird, i take my system from work to home and and back again and it doesn't do that. I have Vista Business but i don't think it sould matter. I can put the system to sleep and wake it up at home and it only shows the current network. Did you try removing all the profiles for both wireless and LAN and then creating them again when you connect and see if the problem goes away?

PS - i have another issue that is weird too (not hijacking your thread). It only happens with the wireless too. AT work i'm connected via wired and home is wireless. When i go home it will connect but the icon shows it's not. I can browse and all that stuff but it just doesn't say connect. If i check the connection settings it says ".... limited" but if i disconnect and then connect again it's fine.

Only said that to say maybe Vista's stack isn't perfect yet but it's still pretty good i'd say. :)

It is probably not actual for you, but I had the same problem on my R400 and found the solution. Maybe it helps someone else.

Run command prompt with admin privileges and type here : route delete 0.0.0.0

That's all, only try disconnect and connect to your wireless network and now, there should be here only one real Wi-Fi network.

I hope it will help.

@zvonicek: Thanks for the advice! My Vista also happens from time to tome to exhibit the same behavior. Now, I know what to do :)
