Ctrl-Alt-Delete Missing Under Vista T60

#1 Post by Kamika007z » Wed Aug 22, 2007 10:21 pm

Hello All,

I just took the plunge and installed Windows Vista (I was more reluctant to do so due to the new performance & reliability updates released by MS) and joined it to my company's domain without an issue.

However, now when I log off or even begin to log in, I am not prompted to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

The same is true with our Office X60 running Vista 64-bit.

I checked for the setting under control panel -> advanced tab -> secure logon, and I see the ctrl-alt-delete option, but it is greyed out.

The same is true under the X60.

Any thoughts? Could it be the Lenovo fingerprint reader software causing this by design? Is this possibly a group policy miscommunication between Windows 2003 server and Vista? Shouldn't all domain attached machines have the Ctrl-Alt-Delete option enabled due to server-security hardening?

Thank you in advance for your help on this issue.

The following thread is for XP, but I think you might find what you need to fix your log on there. I suggest you read through both pages of the entire thread before attempting any of the solutions.

Kamika007z:

On Vista there's a setting in the Group Policy Editor for Ctrl-Alt-Delete logins:

Start > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options

Look for "Interactive logon: Do not require CTL+ALT+DEL"

However, settings in here may be overridden by domain policy from your domain controller. At my work location, CTL+ALT+DEL logins are required and enforced by domain policy.
