FPR autentication with Safeguard Easy?

#1 Post by jarkko » Wed Sep 05, 2007 3:45 pm

Plain and simple: what do I need to get Safeguard Easy to work with FPR when booting my Thinkpad up?

I know it's possible because I once had it, but for some reason I cannot get it working anymore, SGE keeps on asking it's password, and my power-on and hdd passwords are autenticated with FPR as usual.

Do I need to have CSS installed prior to installing SGE to get the FPR autentication working with SGE? I hope not..

You don't need CSS at all to use Utimaco Safeguard Easy with the fingerprint reader. In addition to Safegaurd Easy you need the fingerprint software that can be installed before or after safeguard easy. When both safeguard easy and the fingerprint software is installed you need to install the Token add-on (AddOnSetup.msi)from the safeguard easy CD. It's located under "SGEASY\INSTALL\AddOnSetup" on the safeguard easy CD.

This add-on is not supported for the fingerprint reader found in the T4x, X4x and R5x Thinkpad series.

Thanks, Wiz!

Nice to know, allthough I have T43p so I cannot use this token addon? Hum.

I'm pretty sure I did have working setup earlier with SGE (4.2 was the version) and my T43p, at power on I just offered my finger and it did the poweron, hdd and sge autentication automatically.

Well, I have to look in to those links you gave.

According to Utimaco it's not supported with the original fingerprint reader in the T43p. I tried to install the add-on on a T43p and i was not allowed to continue with the installation since no supported fingerprint reader were found. The installation on a T60 worked just fine though. So it won't do any harm to try the installation of the add-on since the installation will fail before it's installed if the fingerprint reader is not supported and no changes will be done to your system.

If you managed to get it working before i have not idea how you did that. Also the fingerprint support is a new feature of SGE 4.30 so as far as i know you couldn't use the fingerprint reader at all with SGE 4.20.

Hmm, odd.

Well, I have to look in to this again in a few days, I have to do a clean install on my T43p (XP was installed on march 2006 last time so it's beginning to get a bit slow...).
