X31 vs. IEEE 1394 (Firewire) vs. Standby / Hibernate

#1 Post by fantomex » Mon Nov 01, 2004 8:09 am

Hello, after this dreamless night i finally found out what is causing my computer to hang after entering the stadby/hibernation...

i've read two other possible solutions here, but none one worked for me (first was by uninstalling Nero or Daemon Tools, second was actually a hardware issue with modem)

neither of these worked for me so i was looking... actually like 4-5 hours ago, that it seems to me that the IEEE1394 is acting somewhat strange (for example i've been unable to deactivate it in device manager... DM always hanged (without any error message))

I was stuck... i knew it was Firewire, but i've been unable to deactivate it =((
I even tried to patch XP with SP2 =))

Solution: restart the XP in Safe mode with network support, go to control panel> system > device manager. Under 1394 Host Adapter of Standard OCIH pick the device right click and disable it... Disable the device under this folder not under Network adapters.

Voila... the 1394 is disabled for now... and the system standby and sleep modes are working again =))))))))))))))))))

Now, if someone could help me out with enabling the 1394 back again =)

the issue may be related to IBM Access Connections 3.30 which may eat up the IEEE1394 connection as it is listed as NIC and they got stuck somehow, without releasing it back to the system - so no changes are possible.

I am also running Kerio 2.1.5 on the system, according to Kerio.com website the version 4.1.1 fixes bug related to firewire - it's uncertain when (in what version) this bug has been introduced - but my desktop computer is also hit by this bug (related to IEEE1394)

it may also be some winxp hotfix...
