I posted this over in the Thinkpad T6x area but I though I would give it a shot over here hoping it would get more hits. Sorry for double posting but I'm at my wits end and was hoping someone else ran into this and resolved it in the past.
This is a brand new IBM Thinkpad T60p. I actually have 2 of them, one is not yet configured it's just right out of the box.
Environment:
Windows 2003 server, network cable is new, network connection is new CAT5e to Cisco switch. Tested with 2 other IBM Thinkpads and both work. I then moved the notebook to a different (known working connection) and it still has this problem. I've determined that cabling is not an issue, nor hardware on the computer. I have two of these Thinkpad T60p's so I took the hard drive out of this one and into another brand new T60p and it still exhibits the same issue described below.
Problem:
When computer is first turned on it won't connect to network, says domain not found. If you disconnect the cable, wait approximately 2 minutes at the network login screen and then reconnect the cable at the login screen you can successfully log onto the network with no issues.
Hardware and resolutions attempted:
- Notebook computer
- IBM TP60p
- Windows XP SP2 running on Windows 2003 Server
- Latest bios installed
- Intel PRO/1000 PL adapter
- Latest network drivers installed
- Network connection completely tested out and I then found this happens no matter where I plug it in
- Card uninstalled from within device mangler , rebooted, reinstalled, uninstalled again, newest drivers installed, etc.
- Various services turned off and rebooted to no avail
- Power management turned off on card
- Wake on settings - disabled
- Wake on Link settings - disabled
- Wait for Link - disabled
- Connection tested with Link Speed and Duplex changed to the following: 10/half, 10/full, 100/half, 100/full, auto detect, auto detect 1000 and rebooted each time, same deal
- Wireless switch turned off on the front of the computer (lower left side on front there.)
Called IBM tech support they had me uninstall card through device mangler, download latest network drivers, made sure bios was newest release, turned off power save features, checked nic drivers release to make sure it was up to date, etc.
Software installed on computer is very vanilla, understand I've had this computer 1 week so all that is installed is Lotus Notes, Office 2k7 plus security updates, all latest drivers through XP, Cisco VPN client (later uninstalled for the sake of argument), XP security updates, Windows firewall turned off, no other firewall is installed on this computer at this point.
I'm sure I probably left some detail out but that's where I'm at.
Thanks in advance for reading this and any advice/assistance would really be appreciated!
Kevin
