Wireless detection problems

#1 Post by Chispad60 » Mon Sep 24, 2007 4:26 pm

Hi, I'm using Vista (Business) since june, without several problems in my x60s, until now that i was trying a connection through Wireless (I normally use LAN) in a place with enough signal, and i got a suprise :( : I can't detect any wireless network! and everything is fine in the PRO/Wireless 3945 abg configuration, i'm with the last driver/software released for vista, everything goes normally with the device (no problems detected by the OS) the green light on the screen is on. But it just can't find any network.
I've tried many areas with wifi signal and with other notebooks behind using it normally, but my Thinkpad is blind to them.
What can be wrong in my configuration? :?:
(With XP i was able to find them) this is my first time i try Wireles w/Vista.
Thanks for help!
Thanks 4 all, F. Suárez

Uninstall Access Connections (if you have it installed), reboot and reinstall the following drivers again:

Intel PRO 3945abg wireless software for Windows Vista - ThinkPad (dated September 14th) and update your BIOS as well.

In addition, look at this guide on configuring Wireless network in Windows Vista by Microsoft.

You can also look at a wireless troubleshooting tips from lenovo.

Moreover, please take a look at this and this (look for Gomjabbar's instructions) thread. If the problem still persists then I suggest you search on this forum, there are a lots of threads on solved wireless issues.

Lastly do make sure the physical wireless radio switch is turned on.

It works, don't know how!

(I had the mentioned problem without Access Connections and with the last september driver update, and BIOS as well)

However I have make it work! but i'm not sure if what i did was correct:

Inside the Advanced Options Configuration for Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, there is another option for "Wireless Mode", it was selected
the first one: 802.11a as default. I only change this option to the last one (number six) which is 802.11a/b/g. And now everything goes find.

That was the only thing i did, and suddenly all the networks available appeared. I don't know the reason, if that option is going to cause other problems, or if it can work too with options 2 - 5. This is a mystery.

Some explanation?

Thanks for the advices.
Thanks 4 all, F. Suárez

Basically you told your device to look at both the 2.4 GHz band and the 5.8 GHz band. Your wireless was configured to only look at the 5.8 GHz band (the a band), which is seldom used, and therefore a great band to use, if and only if there is an access point that supports it. Where you were there where no access points using that band.
