Vista explorer Crash installing network printer

#1 Post by johnp126 » Thu Sep 27, 2007 8:54 am

I have vista ultimate t61p lenovo build and updated, i am on a domain but using a local login, was able to add network printer click not listed after i type in the \\server\printer and click add windows explorer crashes.

i have seen info on removing readding to the domain which does not work. tried going to the server (printer) and dragging the printers to the printer folder and that does create the printer but they don't print and don't say why? anyone have an idea?

Network printing doesn't work (for me) if not on a domain, and also not authenticated. The printer can't be found. I alwasy authenticate myself to a client domain with a NET USE \\... statement (batch file for each client). Then the network printers work fine. I am using XP, but my guess is Vista needs the same and may not behaving properly if it doesn't get what it wants.

well in Vista, you just click Add a Printer and then select "Network...." and it goes out and scans for all printers. Then it puts up a list, once you find the one with the IP of the one you want to use then just select it.

The other thing you can do is manually add it. You just click thru the above and then just type in the IP. That'll do all it needs to do.
