Does my computer needs less ThinkVantage processes? (Pic)

#1 Post by lukaszsw » Wed Oct 17, 2007 12:54 pm

OK,
so I've been thinking about it for quite a while, and read that some people limit the number of processes to a bare minimum and get better performance in Windows. I tried to get rid of as many Thinkvantage products as possible, but still I don't know if it is enough

Also a technician said that my computer might have been hacked if there is so many svchost.exe processes. Can it be?
Take a look at my Task manager screenshot

Is there anything that is a waste of memory?
I regulary do spyware and adware scans and defragment my harddrive, but still my windows take up two 3 minutes when booting, wonder if it can be improved

MOD EDIT: Pic warning added.

The *number* of processes has *nothing* (zero, nada) to do with Windows performance. If it did, my computers would not work at all, and yet they both work amazingly fast.

The more processes you have, the more memory is used (but who cares, so long as you have enough). I have only 768 Mb of ram and can run two complete computers simultaneously, both with a full load of processes.

The more processes you have, the longer Windows takes to start. I start my laptop once a day, so saving a minute (while I am enjoying my morning coffee in any event) doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

Tune your applications - that is the answer to your problem.

You can schedule them to run it for you at a time you go to sleep while your battery is being charged after the day of work etc....

JD has covered your main query.
