new ThinkPad icons (Pic)

#1 Post by ThinkPad R » Wed Oct 31, 2007 4:13 pm

That work well under 32 MB graphics setting.

48 x 48 - that should be large enough for windows vista (originally 32 x 32)

built on pre-existing IBM thinkpad theme icons - I changed some of them.

There's direction on how to change icons of My Pictures, My Videos, and My Music.

It looks pretty rough b/c I copied paste from the icon program to microsoft paint

but it's actually quite smooth

Anyways, let me re-upload the icons.

I updated some of the icons that looked messy (i.e. My Video)

got rid of irrelevant ones

& added Program Files & Zip Folder icons

I updated the README so that people know how to change the default file folder icon without getting into trouble.

The easiest alternative (other than the README instructions) would be to get an icon program or tuning program like Tune Up Utilities for free trial.

If people have any other suggestions for icons, plz post it here.

I have oodles and oodles of icons from way back when, incl. some Windows 3.0 ones I stole with (then) Norton Desktop's icon editor tool.

I like many of your alternate "black drop" icons. I also like 3-d looking objects. If ou can find the fellow that made some 2001: a space odyssey icons for Windows and Mac, his are fab. I wish we could have some like that for the Stinkpad. Say, an icon that's the TrackPoint buttons, a Power button, etc.

For now, though, the mediafire links seem to be DOA, no response. Maybe SourceForge or another distribution site?

*Yeah, from my personal experience, I find my icons to be much easier to use - I just know that anything with black circle is a folder. Usually, too much detail can slow you down in finding what you want.

*I've been trying out 3D icons but they really didn't work - either b/c software sucks (IconXP) or because I'm just not good enough right now to build 3D icons that are easy to use & are pleasant to see.

*Yeah, I've heard of the pun - StinkPads. Maybe I could base my icon theme on that...

*All right, I'll try to get icons for those ThinkPad feature apps.

*I'll try to repost it over sourceforge. Thanks.

*Oh, and yes, the space odyssey one looks amazing - I downloaded it.

Also, does anybody have suggestions on an alternative design to the My Network Places & the trash & my music can icons? It's almost the exact copy from IBM & so I need to change it so that there's no copyright problem.

Never been too sure about network icons, I leave it off the desktop -- never use it.

I think the IBM/Lenovo trash can is gay. YMMV. I personally think the old MacOS version Image is about as intuitive as it gets. Mess around on that theme?

My music...? Really can't think of anything? Image Image

(None of my icons are original. I copied and converted them for web use many, many years ago.)
____________

P.S. All but your first link to MediaFire,... the zip files downloaded were empty. Not sure what's up with that. That Mediafire site blows, I kept getting popups for clicking innocuous things. :P

There are larger versions, I'll upload them later.

The largest image a that link is 1024x768. Can you provide 1280x1024 or larger?

Oh really? Thanks. I thought nobody were using this so I stopped updating the link.... The link's dead, right?

How do you guys like the background?

I guess I'll have to further develop the icons.

That's strange. I uploaded a 1600 x 1200. I'll try to fix.

Ok. I'll just upload the 1600 x 1200 on mediafile. It seems that files small enough are permanent @ mediafile.

My flickr account is free, so 1024 seems to be the max.

You can go bigger on Flickr. The limitation is on how much you can upload per month(?). A few desktop-sized images are certainly feasible on a free account.

Oh I found out that you can't

The limit is 1024 x 768 on a free account. Well still the upload link works so it doesn't really matter
