Thinkpad G40 reboots when connected to new projector

#1 Post by BoilerIMS » Mon Nov 12, 2007 9:59 am

Hello,

I have an interesting problem, likely related to Windows XP, with my "new" used G40.

Whenever I connect the thinkpad to a new projector through the external monitor port, Windows XP reboots. By "new projector" I mean a projector that has never been connected to the notebook before. If I later reconnect to the same projector, the thinkpad does not reboot.

Is there a way to disable this reboot procedure? I attend conferences where I regularly have to plug in to new projectors and often cannot wait for a reboot.

Thanks

Welcome to our forums.

I am not into projectors myself, but this guideline may help you:

Maybe you need to start the projector BEFORE you boot your G40?

How's the LCD booting set in BIOS?

My BIOS has no LCD booting option, just a power consumption setting.

To reiterate my problem:

1. When I plug my Thinkpad G40 into a projector that it has never been plugged into before, Windows XP automatically reboots
2. If I later plug it into the same projector, no reboot.

When you go into "configuration" under BIOS, choose "display" and it should give you a couple of options to play with, once you've highlighted it...

Under "Display" there are three options, two of which are related to power consumption. The other is the "boot" option, which allows "LCD", "CRT", or "both" which I presume to mean which monitor output(s) is activated during the boot sequence. I have selected "LCD."

Try "both" and see what happens...
