Password Manager doesn't prompt to save any more

#1 Post by Velolion » Sun Nov 18, 2007 9:28 pm

Ok, I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit on a T60P. I LOVE the ThinkVantage Password Manager utility, but for some reason a while back it quit prompting to save passwords during IE browsing sessions. All the password entries that were already in there are working. Here's what I've tried to remedy the problem:

* Uninstalled and re-installed Client Security Solutions 8. I'm running the latest version right now -- 8.0.0311.00

* Have verified that I'm running the latest fingerprint software, 5.6.1, and there appear to be no problems with it

* I have disabled and re-enabled the Password Manager plug-in in IE Explorer. I am running version 7.0.6000.16546.

I don't Firefox or Netscape installed, so I can't verify whether it's working under those browsers or not.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Brian

Have you tried the simple steps yet? Opening CSS, and going to Password Manager and disabling it. Rebooting your computer and then opening IE and clearing everything in the Browsing history area? Running a registry cleaner like Tune-up 2007. Rebooting your system, then re-enabling Password Manager.

Thanks, DAH. I have disabled Password Manager through CSS, rebooted, re-enabled, and re-booted. This is one of the first things I tried. I guess I pretty much figured the unintstall and then subsequent clean install of CSS would take care of any possible registry issues, and I guess I don't really see the correlation between the IE browsing history and whether PM works or not. It doesn't prompt to save passwords now on sites I have been to in the past nor those I have never visited.

I have also tried deleting entries that were added in the past, when things were working right, and that were functioning correctly. I then tried browsing back to those sites to see if, once I entered a username and password, Password Manager queried me on whether or not I would like to save the information. It doesn't.

Thanks,

Brian

Password Manager Does not prompt to save password any more

Hey Brian, I was curious if you were able to get this working. Mine has not worked for months and every once in a while I work on it. I really like this utility but IBM Support is not helpful on it and there really is not much documentation on this program.

I figure the only way to get it working again will be to factory default my Thinkpad which I really do not want to do.

Nope. As with you mine hasn't been working correctly for months. Still works fine on the sites I got prompted to save months ago, but that's it -- never prompts me to save credentials any more. It's a real bummer because I liked the feature a lot, and now my thumbprint reader's basically only used for logging on the computer.
