My T61 restarts automatically after hibernation

#1 Post by Steve06 » Tue Dec 11, 2007 12:12 pm

When I set my T61 in hibernation mode, it often happens that it automatically wakes up again.

I would expect it to not wake up again until I press the power switch again.

What's happening here?

Any comment is welcome.

Is your T61 connected to a cabled network? Do you have "wake on LAN" enabled in bios? If yes, that is one possible cause.

Hi Andy,
I deactivated Wake on lan in the bios (was hard enough to access the bios, btw), but this didn't do it.

the machine still keeps restarting after 30 seconds or so it is in hibernation mode.

i would like it to only start again if i press the power button.

what's the problem here?

Make sure ACPI Power Management drivers are installed from lenovo.

Disable Hybrid Sleep to see if that makes any difference.

Although for sleep mode but give it a try:

A computer that is running Windows Vista appears to sleep and then immediately wake.

When a Windows Vista-based computer is awakened from sleep by a magic packet, and the WakeOnLAN feature is enabled, the computer's desktop is displayed unexpectedly.

Update your BIOS:
(Fix) Resume operation from hibernation may fail with Intel Turbo Memory on Windows Vista.

I also had this problem on a T61p with Vista x86 Ultimate. No amount of playing with wake-on-lan, magic packet, etc would fix it. It would hibernate, then immediately resume. Suspend had issues too.

Both problems are mostly fixed with the RC1 of Vista SP1. Some others are introduced, but overall SP1 RC1 is worth the time and trouble.

FWIW, SHUTDOWN occasionally locks the machine up with SP1, and using Outlook 2007 to open an attached PDF will also lock the system about 70% of the time.

Wrong forum I know, but I am having this problem with a brand new T61p running Windows XP. It only happens in the Advanced Mini-Dock. Wake on LAN is disabled in the BIOS. I hibernate and immediately it un hibernates, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I have a problem where a T60 with Vista 64 and wake on lan disabled as well as wake on mouse disabled.

I wakes up every day at 6:55 AM even with the lid shut and then after about 5 minutes goes back to sleep.

My thought is that it is the Media Center which I have configured to work with a USB HDTV device. I think it is getting the program information.

However, whatever it is, it must NEVEN wake up with the lid shut. I have found it running in a briefcase and VERY hot. What about on a plane when it is supposed to be off.

Seems like some device or software is sending magic packets even when WoL is disabled, some virus scanners do that or your power management settings are not working properly under Windows Vista 64-bit edition.

There is an option in the BIOS settings, under "Config > Power", for "Timer wake w/ Battery Operation". Make sure that's disabled.

Follow up to previous post about waking with lid shut. Now, twice, when I open the lid I find it displaying the blue screen with a message about power driver.

When I run the update from Lenovo, it always says that it need Vista KB929637 64 bit and Intel Chipset Support.

I know the chipset support is installed. It installs the KB929637 each time but I don't know if it is taking.

I had a problem with the battery discharging during un-plugged hibernation, and it turned out to be Kaspersky antivirus waking the machine up. I turned off the auto-updates, and it's been fine since then.

Didn't read the whole thread but it is possible windows update is causing it to wake up to check for updates every day at some time. If you haven't already looked at the WU settings, check that out. You can adjust the settings so it checks for updates at a time that won't cause problems for you.
