Networking & driver problems T42p (wireless, PM, monitor

#1 Post by mytp » Thu Dec 13, 2007 4:33 pm

I’ve recently added Vista Ultimate as a dual boot to XP Pro on a T42p (2373KTU).

Following are my unresolved driver issues. I would appreciate your advice:

The wireless LAN is not recognized by Vista (Atheros 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter – AR5001X+). It appears in Device Manager as an unidentified “Ethernet controller”. Lenovo doesn’t offer an updated Vista driver. I’ve searched the Web, and any suggested drivers I’ve downloaded have not been accepted by Vista.

I’ve installed the Vista Power Management driver from Lenovo, but can’t find any additional functionality besides what Vista itself offers in terms of power management. Is there a way to adjust the percentages at which the battery begins and ends recharging?

My external monitor (Dell 1905FP) is picked up as “generic” by Vista, as is the ThinkPad’s own LCD screen. Does that affect functionality? I’m not able to use the external monitor in digital mode (DVI) – is that the result of not having proper monitor drivers or the result of the video card driver (ATI)?

Networking: It has been very difficult to get it functioning properly. Originally I had no Web access. I needed to follow the instructions in KB928233, uninstall IPv6, and disable the Windows firewall in order to gain access to the Web and WU (connecting through a Linksys WRTP45G router), and there are still sporadic disconnects from the Web (connecting with wired Ethernet, not wireless!). There are no such problems when I’m booted into XP, so this must be a Vista problem. Any ideas?

TIA,
David
