93 updates??

#1 Post by charredii » Fri Dec 21, 2007 10:17 pm

Everytime I tried to shutdown, windows asks me to install updates.

the OS then puts up a dialog that says it's instlaling 1 of 93 updates, and then justs shuts down.

anyone else have this behavior on their T60 running XP Pro?? I think these updates are conflicting with System Updates stuff, right?? suggestions??

Thanks

MOD EDIT: Thread moved from T6x to Windows OS.

ThinkVantage System Update has nothing to do with Windows Update, the former doesn't download anything automatically like the latter does.

This is Windows problem not thinkpads, try the following solution:
AUTOMATIC WINDOWS UPDATE INSTALLATION. Windows XP SP2 checks at shutdown for any Windows Updates have been downloaded and not installed, then offers to install them as part of the shutdown process. Understandably, this can cause a very slow shutdown on that one occassion and, if something goes wrong, can even hang shutdown completely. To see if your shutdown problem is caused by this issue, look for error 0x80248011 in any of the Windows Update log files, particularly %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log. If present, this indicates a corrupt local metadata store for Windows Update. SOLUTION: Click Start, click Run, type SERVICES.MSC, click OK. Stop the Automatic Updates service. Rename the c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder to c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old. Restart the Automatic Updates service.

It wasn't an error then, the updates needed few shutdowns to be installed properly perhaps.

I did a windows install last night from sp1 to present, after I installed sp2 from a CD and hit the windows update site there were 97 updates to be installed, best thing to do is just let them install and get it over with. Like rye said there is no connection with lenovo updates. I'd turn off automatic updates in windows too they are probably downloading silently and then prompting you to reboot.

SP3 is just around the corner. It will have most of those updates.
