Windows Explorer chrashes
Hi All
I am running a T61 with windows XP+SP2 and the latetest updates from Both windows and Lenovo.
I have a problem with Windows explorer it chrashes randomly and I get the error message (Windows explorer has encountered a problem and ....)
Then the explorer closes, after that everything comes back to normal except my lenovo Power Manager which is removed from the bottom XP status bar.
It often happens when I launch from the Quick launch toolbar in the bottom XP status bar. I also saw it a lot on IE7 and moved to FireFox and dont see the problem there anymore.
Any other seeing this type of issues?
Any good suggestions how to remove the problem?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated
Thanks in Advance

I read somewhere that this problems was caused due to some security update micorsoft sent out.. And the problem was only with IE6.0 .. So I have no idea about what happening there..
Microsoft became aware of this major problem and sent out a new update to fix the problem.. So just updating your system should fix the problem.

Uninstall the current (IBM) Java completely in Add/Remove.
Then install (runtime) Sun Java http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Have you upgraded memory recently? If you do, you could have a faulty/unstable memory installed.
Run PC-Doctor for windows to check each memory stick for 10 times. 1 or 2 or 5 times is no enough for large capacity memory, and it is better to test them separately.

You could check the properties of the IE7 icon in the QuickLaunch toolbar. (rightclick icon, select properties).
It may perhaps help to delete that icon and make a fresh one.

It is very likely a Windows Explorer extension installed by an application which is buggy. The best tool to enumerate them is AutoRuns http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 63902.aspx

Hi
I managed to catch an error message after the issue happens it says:
Sysfader explorer.exe
the instruction at 0x74725042 referenced memory at 0x000003e8 the memory could not be read
Any ideas on this in an other forum a similar failure was indicated to be related to Nvidia. I have my laptop equipped with a Nvivia Quadro NVS 140M any one having an idea if it could be related to grapihcs card/processor?
Regards

Looks like you have a virus 'Winshow'.
This post has the resolution for it:

Scroll down about halfway till you find a post by 'Taze'.
On page 2 of that post is another plausible explanation

Sysfader is not a virus. It seems to be installed with nVidia drivers.
My display driver is provided by nVidia. It offers all kinds of options and one of them is the culprit. The solution is Go to START > CONTROL PANEL > DISPLAY > NVIDIA NVIEW DESKTOP MANAGER > tab DESKTOP MANAGEMENT > PROPERTIES > tab APPEARANCE > EFFECTS and uncheck the FADE EFFECT option. God knows what it does but unchecking it solves the problem.
