Wired and Wireless network connection failed
Wired and Wireless network connection failed
Have a Z60T with XP SP2 installed and both my Wifi and Wired network connections have stopped working. The Wifi light and the ethernet port light come on but both connections no longer get IP address etc. Repair connection does not work either. Cannot disable the Wifi connection in control panel.
After having similar problems a while ago I uninstalled Access Connections, removed both drivers and just installed the latest drivers again and everything had been fine for the past 6-9 months.
However, recently I was away from home and to save battery power I used the hardware radio switch to turn off the Wifi and Bluetooth to save power (as I was not on the internet etc).
But when I got back home I switched the hardware switch to on but my Wifi refused to connect to my router. So I plugged in the wired connection but even that refused to work properly - did get a few web pages at one point but the browser then hung so I did a reboot.
Since that reboot neither the wired and wireless works.
I thought I would try and uninstall the drivers but when I tried to uninstall the Broadcom Ethernet device in Device Manager the dialog just stopped responding. I killed it and then tried to uninstall the Thinkpad Wifi driver from Add/Remove programs but even that got stuck at 16% - left it for ages but nothing.
Tried to shutdown but it refused to shutdown - had to use the power button to do a dirty shutdown.
Have tried removing driver again but it just gets stuck.
Any ideas??? Help Please.....

Reboot your router (probably a small opening at the back, in which you can stick a paperclip).
Those units have 'forgotten' how to get active again after their 'holiday' from the net.

It worked! Was pretty sceptical when you suggested rebooting the router - it had been switched off whilst I was away and switched back on when I returned home - but the reboot did the trick.
Really weird cos prior to the reboot , another desktop PC and laptop were connecting fine via Wired and Wireless!!
Thanks!

Good to hear. Most people forget that the router forgets as well!
Do I understand that you took your laptop with you, while away?
It would be better to switch it off overnight, rather than keep it going all the time with hibernation or sleep.
That way your OS AND the hardware get 'fresh impulses' whenever you start her up again.

Time for details:
- your ISP + type Broadband
- make/model router
- type Broadcom wifi card
- do you use straight CAT5 cable (i.e. when holding both ends same side up, are the wires in the same color sequence?) If not, it's a crossover cable.
- have you got a PCMCIA card to try?
