Easy way to transfer MAIL and MAILBOXES from Outlook Express

#1 Post by nikemen » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:53 am

I have about 150MB of mail in multiple outlook express folders, that I would like to transfer to vista mail, not outlook?

Is there an easy way to do this? I have touched on the the transfer settings wizard, but I ONLY want this mail to transfer.

Is it possible to just drag over the mailbox mbx folders, and import them?

I don't know about Vista mail, but most recent (last 10 years) Microsoft mail tools have an import (and export) facility. Locate your Outlook Express folder and mail files. They are dbx files in an Indentity folder under your userid folder in Docs and Settings. Once you have located them, go to Vista mail and attempt to import them. ... JDH

I know, it doesn't answer your question but I have to say it: One of the major things why I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird is that the mails (folders) are ordinary mbox files (exactly: mboxrd format)
So I can copy them to my mails directory and I have my old mails available.
There are also some webmails (e.g. my old internet access provider etel.at) where I can download mailbox folders as mbox file.
I can also browse my mbox files with an ordinary text editor/viewer.

Nevertheless there are also some things I don't like in Thunderbird.
Also the mbox formats are not so clearly defined and standardized but for me it's working quite good.

BTW: Thunderbird can import mails from Outlook Express but I guess there are a lot of mail clients that can import them.
