Service Pack II Upgrade is hung

#1 Post by JonathanGennick » Wed Jan 16, 2008 4:11 pm

I'm rebuilding an old R40, have been applying the Windows updates (a slow and painful process, to be sure), and I made it this afternoon to Service Pack II. For close to an hour now, that upgrade has been stuck in the "Performing cleanup" phase. The poor hard-drive is just thrashing to death, but I see no sign that the upgrade will ever end.

What to do?

1) I could let just let the thing crank on. I don't need the machine tonight anyway.

2) I could reboot, but will that leave my configuration in a mess?

Is there some other option here that I'm overlooking? Should the application of SP2 really take so long?

BTW, I have only 256MB in this machine. Perhaps that's the root of the problem.

I'm just going to let it grind on for now.

Never mind. Problem solved. I guess I lost patience too quickly. I'm at the reboot stage now.

Onward and upward...
