Intel 2100 B wireless issue

#1 Post by Stargate199 » Tue Feb 12, 2008 11:55 am

Hey, here's one for ya. I upgraded my T41 to Windows Vista Business in December. So far it works great and have not had any major issues. In fact, all my applications seem to be running faster under Vista than XP. Within the last few weeks, I have been having issues with the wireless connection. At home, it will randomly drop my wifi and then when I go to reconnect, It can find my network, and sometimes when it does, Windows says it can't connect. The same thing seems to happen at school, but I don't seem to lose the connection, it just has a hard time connecting. I believe I am using the drivers that it was using under XP for wireless. Lenovo says there is an updated driver on Windows Update, but I haven't found it. any suggestions?
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

A couple things:

Get an updated driver from Intel.

Intel Wireless LAN software & drivers for Windows*

Intel(R): Download Software, Drivers, and Utilities

2100 Driver (INTEL(R)PROWIRELESS21_125836.ZIP), End of Life Announcement:

Consider that the 2100 is long on the tooth any maybe this is an opportunity to upgrade! Anecdotally, I've seen this same problem with the Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 3A and 3B when using older (read: old) drivers. Usually something datestamped after June/July of 2006 gives better reliability with this card. Most of my disdain for early Intel PRO/Wireless cards was when using drivers dated prior to June/July 2006. The intel family is excellent when using the latest drivers, so I suggest you try that.

Also consider that the 2200bg will usually have better range (IME) than the 2100 and the 2915ABG better yet still (IME) than the 2200BG. Atheros BG or ABG is also another option.

Happy hunting,
