BSOD problem using a Logitech Quickcam and Windows XP Pro.

#1 Post by Plinkerton » Tue Nov 30, 2004 5:16 pm

I have a Logitech Quickcam that I use in MSN Messenger. It works just fine with that, and I've never had a problem.

It's a little strange though, when I try to view the camera feed using Windows XP, I get a BSOD, and the computer automatically shuts down a restarts, claiming it is shutting down to protect my computer.

If I plug the camera in, for which the software and drivers are installed, and go to "My Computer" and double click the camera icon that pops up, it gives me that BSOD. I don't think it's always done this.

Just now, I installed the Timershot PowerToy for webcams, and the little window popped up, showed the feed of what the camera was seeing, then the BSOD happened.

It's not the PowerToys fault, as that was installed and then reinstalled, etc. And it's happening with Windows without the Powertoy.

Anyhow, none of this is a big deal, as it doesn't interfere with my normal use, but I would like to be able to mess around with this thing.

Thanks a lot,
Plink

Sounds like a driver issue somehow. Like perhaps those other programs are doing a query that MSN isn't doing, like tyring to set some type of mode switch, and it crashes your system. I suggest trying newer and/or older versions of the driver and see if there are any flash updates for it. I use firewire webcams and don't have a quickcam so I can't do much debugging for ya...

Well, as usual, you are right, and very helpful.

I downloaded the most recent stuff off the web site, and it all seems to be better.

Thanks a lot!
