Install standard win XP version in T61

#1 Post by RONY » Mon Mar 17, 2008 3:59 pm

Hello,
I get a new lenovo ThinkPad T61 7664-1FG, windows vista.
T7500(2.2GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, 128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M,

I installed the downgraded XP version that Lenovo sent to me. The problem is that i can t partition my hard disk. If i do i ll not be able to restore a sauvegarde i think.

Now i like to install a standard version of XP that i have with 2 partitions. The problem is that i don t have the driver of the HD, xp don t able to know the hard disk !!

Can anybody help me ?
My lapotop will be faster after installing standard xp ?

Thanks a lot

Rony

Hi RONY, welcome to the forums,

my suggestions; create recovery cds from the XP installation through Start - Programs - ThinkVantage - Create Recovery Media, (bottom part of the window), hopefully you created these for Vista. Then I would burn to dvd the folder c:\swtools - this contains all the drivers and Lenovo applications.
In order to boot from an XP cd you need to make the following change in bios; press F1 when booting to enter bios, select the Config menu and then select S-ATA, here you should set it to compatability mode. You can install the S-ATA driver after XP is installed.

Happy installing
