Bitlocker with a new T61 laptop

#1 Post by stevendpclark » Wed Mar 19, 2008 12:00 am

Hello all,

I recently purchased a new T61 with Vista Ultimate for use with Bitlocker. Problem is I can't seem to get it activated since the install disks as well as the restore partition don't allow me to activate the feature on install.

The MS prep tool doesn't work either since I guess its seeing the restore partition on the drive :(

Lenovo support has been, well, less then useful ;) Can someone point me in the right direction? I would rather not have to pickup a new version of windows...

Also currently I am running TrueCrypt with the partition encryption. No complaints except for the lack of hibernation support and I think it disabled my TurboMemory as well :(

Thanks for any assistance!

I would try following:

1. Read the Bitlocker Implementation Guide on the MS site since Bitlocker is a little tricky and you SHOULD understand it's functionality and administration http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsse ... x?mfr=true

2. Burn yourself a set of Recovery Discs. Important!

3. Make the Service Partition visible in BIOS and delete it afterwards using Vistas Disc Management Console and afterwards expand your current Systempartition to Max.

4. Download the Bitlocker and EFS Enhancements in Windows Update.

5. Run the Bitlocker Preparation Tool. It should create the right Partition layout for Bitlocker operation.

Hope that helps.
