Vista SP1 not avail for T60p but is for T43p and desktop

#1 Post by jgrobertson » Sun Mar 23, 2008 7:11 pm

The update for Vista downloaded and installed on two of my three machines. But for the 3rd one, a T60P, running Ultimate 64 (I changed the CPU to a core2duo) it simply is not showing up in the Windows Update.

Any ideas?

Do you have any language packs installed on your T60P? Vista SP1 is coming out in 2 waves, the initial wave only for 5 supported languages, and then the final wave next month for the full 31 language packs (which are only available for Vista Ultimate editions).

For example, I have a Chinese language pack installed on both machines in my sig (both run Vista Ultimate), and I can't get the service pack for either until the middle of next month when the second wave is scheduled to release.
Current: T430
Past: T42 | T60 | T61 | X61T | T410

I did not intentionally install any language packs. How would I tell if somehow that happened?

It is more likely that you have the fingerprint reader installed on your T60 and need to update the UPEK driver to v.1.9.2.111. When you do you will see SP 1 available on the update site.

I downloaded the SP1 installer for mine, so far so good.

I did a clean sweep.

Vista Business clean install then update.
Installed all the Lenovo updates.
Installed Office 2007 and updates then Vista SP1.

Checking the drivers, seams that the System Update from Lenovo is not working as it should. This was a 2623DDU that came with XP. I changed the processor so it would would run 64 bit Vista and then installed Ultimate 64. The System Update may be looking at the 2623DDU and not what is actually on the system however I know that some of the drivers it downloads are for Vista 64.

BIOS confusion!!
1. Bios on website is 2.21 released Feb 08 (CD install only for 64)
2. Sandra SI reports that 2.23 is installed.
3. Lenovo System Information reports 2.17 is installed.

System Update ALWAYS reports
1. That Intel Chipset Support 5 needs to be installed, of course it is.
2. That Patch KB929637 64bit needs to be installed. It always says then that it does not apply to the system. I have actually manually installed it some time ago.

Today, it showed as Critical that the Migration Assistant needed to be updated. I never use that.

The UPEK driver in there is old but it does not show up on System Update. Why do I have to get this from UPEK??

Because Lenovo have not yet updated it and the old driver (current Lenovo) is on the SP 1 list of potential driver problems and will not allow the update to show in Windows update if it is on the system.

HMM. Sounds like Lenovo has internal management problems.

After updating the UPEK and Bios it still would not show the SP1. Then I shut it down, removed it from the minidock and rebooted. Then it showed. Maybe having it docked was part of the problem.

Then, I noticed that the size of the download was about 125 Mbyte but for the same Vista Ultimate 64 on my desktop, it was smaller, about 90 Mbyte if I recall correctly.

Many users have reported that when they have updated the proper components that they would have to query Windows update multiple times before SP1 then showed.
