Vista 64, 4gigs ram, and missing memory

#1 Post by skellington » Mon Apr 07, 2008 1:03 pm

Hi everyone,

I have vista business x64 installed on a M57 desktop, radeon xt 256megs, and for some reason vista only reports 3806 megs of ram out of the 4096.

Apparently 256 is being reserved for the video card and another 34 by the bios for other things but shouldn't that stuff get mapped into some other address space so that vista can see the full 4096 megs of ram?

Is there a bios setting or other setting I can change to get that memory back? Or is it the video card bios that is reserving that space?

Thanks.

umm no because your card doesn't have dedicated memory, it always uses some of your RAM it seems. Mapped memory address space would use space in Windows, not actual memory. if it's showing that much then that means the video card is integrated and locks off some RAM for itself depending on how much you have.

Actually, the mb does have onboard intel video but I'm not using it. I have a pci express radeon XT 256MB (that came installed from lenovo).

hmm well then i guess check around the BIOS for options for lowering it. It seems even if the card is disabled it still locks off some of the RAM to itself.
