Solution to "c0000139 {Entry not found} problem and que

Hi all,

Like a lot of other people who downloaded and installed Windows XP SP3, not realizing it was an RC release, my T61 choked. There are instructions for fixing this floating around the net that involved booting with the WinXP CD and using its repair function. Unfortunately, in my case, this method would not recognize my SATA drives, so I could not get to the point where I changed out GDI32.DLL.

I posted my problem here and ThinkPadder came up with the solution: change the SATA setting my my BIOS configuration from "AHCI" to "Compatibility." This allowed me to where I could get SP3 to work (i.e., boot up the regular way). The first thing I did was to delete SP3 and get my T61 back to its previous state. Thank you ThinkPadder!!!

But I still have one more quetion: there is a folder on my C drive named "i386" that I'm not sure was there before installing SP3. Is this is the the SPC3 distribution folder, which I can delete? Or has this always been there and I just never noticed it?

Check the dates of the files in i386.
If they are all 2007 or 2008, it's from XP/SP3 and you can delete it/them.

Nope. They were all created on April 29, 2006.

My i386 from SP2 shows dates around 04/2004. I've got the official XP-SP2 update CD somewhere, but can't find it right now.

My T61 came with WinXP SP2. Would c:\i386 be a folder that came preinstalled on my computer? It has quite a few subfolders.

Maybe this is the folder that my system checks when it's installing official Windows drivers for new hardware, or when making repairs, etc. Whatever it is, I'd like to delete it if I don't need it.
