Bypass encryption?
Bypass encryption?
So, I encrypted a private folder on my USB harddrive in win XP, and made sure only my user had read and write rights and was the only owner.
I just reinstalled XP because, as allways. I messed up in the registry again.
And stupid as I am I forgot to decrypt the folder before reinstalling so now I can't access it anymore. Is there a way to bypass the encryption or break it?

Well, now I can get into my encrypted folder but I cannot read the .txt documents in there.. Access denied.
I've tried everything.. lots of small decrypting programs but none of them worked, I've tried taking ownership of the file but that didn't work either.
Can anyone please help me? Is it possible to decrypt an encypted file that was encrypted with an old xp installation?
Or are my files lost forever?

I think the encryption key is stored in the older windows' registry (under the old windows folder). So if that got erased, then you have a problem. In that case, I don't know if there's a way to crack the encryption, and we're probably not allowed to talk about it here.
That's assuming it isn't a far simpler permissions problem.
